Today's the Day!

You're graduating high school today! I can't believe it. I get teary-eyed when I sit here and think about the gorgeous young lady you've grown up to be.

I remember a year ago, as your senior year began, I looked at you and told you, "Enjoy it! It'll go by so fast!" You told me a couple weeks ago, "You were so right! It went by so fast!" Definitely! For you and for me. I can't believe you're graduating high school today! In just a couple months, you'll be packing up and moving on to college. It feels like just yesterday, you were my little sister. You're still my little sister, you're just not so little anymore. It's hard to believe your about to leave the nest. Great, now I'm crying as I sit here writing this lol.

I think a big part of me is scared for you. As a big sister, it's always been my job to protect you and watch out for you. This next stage of life is going to be the part where you learn that although life is a journey and an adventure, it's not always easy, and it's not always fun. You have an innocence about you today, that a part of me wants to protect because I remember how differently I viewed the world after my eyes were truly opened.

Although life is a journey and an adventure, it's not always easy, and it's not always fun. You'll look back five years from now and be like wow- I've grown so much since high school. I'm excited for you to learn and grow, because it's a part of life, but I want you to know that I'm always here for you, to guide you and to teach you.

I know you're a smart girl, and I don't want you to forget that! Somedays I feel like I want to write you a book or a guide of all the mistakes I made, so that you don't waste your time making the same ones. Not all mistakes are bad though. Mistakes teach us important lessons, but please don't let it be a mistake that costs you your life! You're too beautiful and smart to make one of those mistakes.

If I could give you just a few quick words of advice, it would be this-

1. Please do not fall for the first guy who promises you the world. College is exciting and it's so easy to get swept away. If you're going to fall for someone, please make sure it's the guy that shows you, not the one who tells you, because please remember, actions speak louder than words! That quote is so cliche, but so true! Do not forget it! You deserve nothing but the best, and don't ever allow someone to convince you otherwise. Promise me?! Another great tip- ask yourself, "would mom and dad approve of him?" If not, don't even bother wasting your time with him.

2. Another good piece of advice- do not go home with a guy that you can't picture as the father of your children. Accidents happen, alcohol happens, and you know how those stories end! Remember-you've waited 18 years to get to this point! Do not let one fun night get in the way of your future. Better yet- try practicing abstinence until marriage. I love that idea!

3. It's okay to change your major. If you don't love what you're pursuing, take classes in new areas that interest you. I guarantee you'll find your passion than. Don't waste your time trying to google your future on the internet. The internet can't tell you what you should do or who you should be, just follow your heart! Don't feel glued to one area if you don't love it.

4. You're going to learn as you get older that it's not about the number of friends you have, but the ones that are always there for you, that mean the most. Don't waste your time trying to save friendships where the other person doesn't put in any effort. The people you hang out with today, may not be the people you're hanging out with five years from now, and that's okay! New friendships help you grow. Get outside of your circle and make new friends. Making new friends as you get older gets harder, but they'll end up being some of your best-friends!

5. Always be open to learning. You're never too old, too cool, or too smart to learn something new. Knowledge is power. The more you know, the more well rounded and diverse you'll be. "Say Yes!" to things you've never tried before. Expose yourself to new things. Keep life interesting and keep learning. Try to understand how the world works and operates. I'm still learning new things that leave me amazed at how the world runs. I'm always saying-"Who came up with that?! That's genius!"

6. Watch lots of Shark Tank and create a million dollar idea. It only take one good idea to make a successful company... ;)

7. Don't ever forget, I'm ONLY a phone call away. If you're ever feeling lonely, bored, or just wanting advice, call me. Don't ever feel like you're alone in this world, with no-one to guide you and teach you. That is the absolute worst feeling, and I so badly do not want you to think you're Miss Independent and can figure it all out on your own. Ask for help! It won't kill you.

Happy Graduation Day! I love you so so much! I'm so happy for you and your future, and can't wait to see where life takes you. Congratulations class of 2016! Wishing everyone the best of luck.
